Whether they are geographical, historical, patrimonial or natural, these specificities are the cement of the identity of this singular and endearing Territory. The Territoire de Belfort was created by the Treaty of Frankfurt in 1871, following the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-1871, during which Belfort and its surroundings resisted the Prussian siege for more than 100 days. It became the 90th department of France on 11 March 1922.
